A design studio with its own cabinet shop.
HJ Studio Design draws in the Miami Design District and builds in its own shop in Miami. The same studio that signs the drawing signs the installation.
The founder
Heriberto Jiménez
Founder and Principal Designer
Heriberto founded the studio and still draws every project himself. More than ten years, more than eighty projects, three countries. He is the person you meet at the first conversation and the person who answers when a door needs adjusting two years later.
That puts a ceiling on how much work the studio takes at once. A practice that builds what it draws cannot run twenty jobs in parallel without one of the two halves going quiet, and the half that goes quiet is always the shop.
He works in English and Spanish with owners, architects, contractors and building managers. In Miami that is a working requirement, not a courtesy.

The shop
The shop is the whole argument.
Most interior studios draw cabinetry and send it out to a fabricator. It works until it does not: when a panel arrives fifteen millimetres proud of the wall, the drawing blames the shop and the shop blames the drawing, and the person waiting in an unfinished kitchen is you.
We draw it, we cut and assemble it in our own shop in Miami, and our own crew fits it. One studio holds the tolerance from the first survey to the last scribe, and one phone number answers for it afterwards.
What that means for you
- A change at week six is a conversation with the shop, not a change order to a third party
- Lead times are ours to see, so the date we give you is the date we control
- The people who assembled the piece are the people who install it, so nobody is guessing what the drawing meant
- A defect after handover is fixed by the same crew, not diagnosed by two companies pointing at each other
Furniture is the declared exception. Upholstery and casegoods are made with ateliers we have worked with for years in the United States and Europe, because those are specialist crafts and we would rather say so than pretend.

We do not publish a wall of headshots. What decides the result on your job is which trades are on it and who answers for each one. That is Heriberto, on every project.
Cabinetmaking
Cutting, edging and assembly in the Miami shop. Carcases, doors, drawer boxes and the substrates chosen for a coastal climate.
Finishing
Veneer matched so the grain runs across a wall of doors, lacquer sprayed and cured on schedule, and a sample panel approved in the final finish before the full run.
Installation
Our own crew, with the site protected on day one and every piece scribed to walls that are never as straight as the plan says.
Coordination
Programme, stone and appliance orders, building paperwork and a weekly site report, so you never have to ask how it is going.
The showroom
Materials decided in real light, not on a screen.
The studio and showroom share an address on NE 41st Street, inside the Design District. It is the room where a project usually stops being an idea: veneer, lacquer, stone and hardware in your hands, at the same time, under the same light.
Bring plans if you have them, photos of the space if you do not, and a rough budget range. You will get an honest read on the first visit, including the times when the answer is that the project is smaller than you thought or larger.

Island work
Six hundred miles from the shop, with no second delivery.
Fourteen villas in Turks and Caicos, plus completed work in Aruba and Antigua. Island projects are not Miami projects with a longer drive: the tolerance for error is different, because there is no van going back to the shop for the missing piece.
Everything is specified marine grade, substrates and hardware included, because salt air and eighty per cent humidity find the weak layer of a panel within a season. The drawing set gets checked twice before anything is cut, since a wrong dimension costs a container, not an afternoon.
The work is consolidated into a container, cleared through customs, and scheduled with real slack around the shipping and the customs window rather than an optimistic date. Spares of the pieces that cannot be remade on the island travel in the same container.

What we cannot claim yet.
Other studios carry seals, badges and quotes in italics. We would rather tell you exactly what is documented and what is not.
- Contractor licence. We do not print a number on this site until the document is current and in hand. Ask and we will tell you precisely where it stands.
- Insurance. Your building will ask for a certificate before anyone goes upstairs, and that certificate is handled job by job. It gets published here when it is documented, not before.
- Client testimonials. We are not going to write praise and sign it with someone else’s initials. When owners authorise their names, their words go up with them.
- Awards and press. None listed, because there are none to list yet.
Everything else on this site can be checked: the projects are ours, photographed as they were handed over, and the shop, the address and the phone number are real.
